New Phone Service

We just got set up with Optimum Voice for our phone service. It'll be costing us about half of what we were paying to Verizon each month. Now let's hope it works well....

Better Gas Mileage

I don't know about the rest of you, but I have had it with the price of gas. When I went out on Monday to run a few errands, I fueled up at the local station. $2.46 per gallon, $39 to fill the tank of my Dodge Caravan. Less than one hour later, I returned home, passing that same station. $2.53 per gallon. I couldn't believe it. That did it for me. I came home and began researching new cars which would get me better mileage. (The Caravan only gets 16mpg.)

Dan agreed to come with me, so off we went to the local Honda dealer. We met a salesman who Dan used to work with at Charlie Brown's. He was extremely helpful, and in less than an hour, the deal was done. Unfortunately, the car wasn't in stock, so I won't have posession of it until about September 1. But in a few short weeks I will be the owner of a brand new 5 speed Honda Civic LX SE. It will get 32mpg. I CAN'T WAIT! I have officially finished my minivan years.

Congratulations, Amy

At the Pascack Hills bowling dinner last night, Amy received her Varsity letter. In addition to that, we were informed that she was selected for First Team, All League. All this as a freshman; what's in the future??? Can't wait for next season.

A Strange Invitation

Okay, so it's been four months since I wrote here. Sorry, time just flies...I got an invitation last night unlike any invitation I've ever gotten before. While at bowling, an acquaintance approached me to let me know that if I don't have any plans on Thursday, I should stop by the local funeral home. They are having a wake for her 94 year old aunt who died the other day. She went on to say that they really don't have any family, so it would be nice if some people stopped in. I have never been invited to a wake before! But after she walked away, I felt kind of badly for her. I just might have to stop by on Thursday.

Dan's Turn

It's time for me to brag about my middle child. Dan hasn't liked school since about 3rd grade. He made it through, though and graduated from Pascack Hills in 2002. College wasn't really for him, so after working for a year as a waiter, he realized that he didn't want to do that forever. Due to his love of cars (especially his own), Dan started in the Automotive Tecchnology program at Lincoln Technical Institute. He's been there for 9 months and has only 7 more months to go. Dan has perfect attendance and a 4.0 average in every class completed to date. I am so proud, and so happy for him. I know that he'll be successful, and hopefully he'll be the first ever to graduate from Lincoln Tech with perfect attendance and a 4.0 average. Go for it, Dan!

Four Long Months

It's not that nothing has happened in the past four months, it's just that I haven't written about it. And there's no way I'm writing about it all now. So I'll just write about the past week, then I'll try to be better about writing.

This past weekend, I attended the 30th reunion of Pascack Valley High School. It was really cool to see all the faces of long ago. It was especially good to see 3 of my best friends from high school: Erin, Lisa, and Mary. Unfortunately, Lisa lives far away, but Erin and Mary live close by, so it is my hope that now that we've reconnected a bit, maybe we can keep in touch better than we have in the past. And we missed Marilyn; she couldn't make it, but I'm determined to see her more often, too.

I also have to mention that my daughter, Amy, is incredible. She has been so strong this past week while having to deal with a very emotional situation. She is very brave, and I am so very proud of her. Not many 14 year olds would have handled things as well as she has. Amy, you are the best!

Another Sad Week

Jeff's Aunt Margaret died peacefully on Sunday, May 30. She was 91 years old on May 16. She lived a very full life, and was loved by many. I know that I will miss her tremendously; she and I had a very special relationship. But I know that it was time for her to go and join her loved ones who had passed before her.

Aunt Margaret's son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Dee, cared for her at their home for the past year and a half. I have so much respect for them; seeing the wonderful care they gave to her. I know they'll miss her so much, but I hope they realize how special they are, not only to Aunt Margaret, but to all who loved her so much. Thank you, Jay and Dee for taking such wonderful care of a spectacular lady who I will never, never forget!
