I don't know about the rest of you, but I have had it with the price of gas. Jeff's Aunt Margaret died peacefully on Sunday, May 30. She was 91 years old on May 16. She lived a very full life, and was loved by many. I know that I will miss her tremendously; she and I had a very special relationship. But I know that it was time for her to go and join her loved ones who had passed before her.

Last night was opening night for the Saddle River Youth Theatre's production of The Diary of Anne Frank. I think this is Amy's 12th show with the group. But this is her first drama; all the other shows she's done have been musicals. All I can say is, "Well done, Amy!". Not only Amy, but the entire cast did a phenomenal job. I am now the proud owner of a 5 lb. hula hoop. I started using one at curves; they tell me it's good for your waist. The one at curves weighs 4 lbs., so I figured I'd go for the heavier model....WHAT WAS I THINKING???  It arrived today, and I was able to do it for a few minutes, but it HURTS. There is a warning on the package about pain and bruising; they were right. Yes, I'm still bowling; not twice, but three times a week.  I must love being frustrated, because that's how most bowling outings end up.  I occasionally have a good game; more rarely a good series. Jeff and I went out on Wednesday night to see a new version of the Willies at Johnny O's. Blue Willies consists of Willie and Michael of the Willies, and two guys from a band called Blue Food. At the fairly small community hospital where I work, we had our first water birth this week.  It was a new experience for all of us, since we don't have tubs. Today is Woodcliff Lake Day. It seems strange, because it has always fallen in the middle of the summer. Also, it is celebrated at the Old Mill Pool. However, Woodcliff Lake doesn't have a pool this year, so they decided to hold it at the County Park in September. It begins at 5pm, and will finish up at about 9pm with a fireworks display. Dan's surgery went well on Tuesday. The case before him was cancelled due to some problem with blood work, so he went into the OR at about 1:30pm. It was over by 2pm. The doctor was able to repair the medial meniscus rather than having to cut it.  He said that may mean a longer recuperation period, but will be better in the long run. We were home by about 5pm. So I survived the Monday of my week from hell. Dan did well at the dermatologist; AJ didn't do so well at the oral surgeon. It has been decided that he will have all four impacted wisdom teeth removed on June 12 at 9:30am. Amy's softball game went well; they won 17-4. Dinner was at about 8:15pm; KFC.

Yesterday I talked to the tech who works in the orthopedist's office. He said, "Well, it's broken".  That's about all he said.  Today I got "the call" from the doctor.  He told me that the MRI showed a "nasty fracture".  Not just in one place, but several cracks.  OUCH!!  No wonder why it hurts!! Well, I went to bowling last night; figured I'd give it a try.  I didn't realize how much I use my non-bowling hand until I picked up the ball. Wow, this is weird; I'm typing with my middle and ring fingers on my left hand taped together, and a splint on my left wrist.  Why, you ask? Tonight Amy, Jeff, and I went to Charlie Brown's for dinner.  Food was yummy (I had baby back ribs), but the waiter was so handsome....yes, none other than Dan!! After losing the first game last night by only 13 pins, our team came back to win 5 points.  It was a tough night for both teams, but I had a great second game: 245.  I now have high women's game in the league.  Sue bowled 223 the third game to take the third high spot.  I won't talk about the guys on the team; they really struggled.  Now they know they need us girls!!

Once every winter, I get sick.  The time this year is now.   It started a few days ago with a mild sore throat and a cough.  I made it through the weekend at work; not feeling too good, but survived.  Yesterday it hit me like a ton of bricks.  The teary eyes, stuffy nose, horrible cough, and a headache that won't quit. Yesterday I went for my first workout at Curves.  Today I went after bowling; imagine 2 forms of excercise in one morning!  I think I may be hooked.  It's a great place, and in 30 minutes, you're finished!  When the time was up, I couldn't believe how fast it had gone.  I only hope I continue to like it.  I'm working over the weekend, but I'll be back on Monday. The reason it took so long is because when I first started at the hospital, C-Sections were done by nurses in the Operating Room.  By the time they decided to train us to do it in OB, I had developed a latex allergy, and there were no sterile gloves available for me to wear. Last night, Amy and I went to see Tricia, my six year old niece in her first theater production.  It was "theater week" at her school, and an outside director came in all week and taught about 50 kids in grades 1-4 their parts for the show.  It was "The Pied Piper", but with a western theme. Well, my Friday morning team has been in first place for several weeks now, and we were 12 points ahead going into this morning's series.  Unfortunately, we lost all 7 points, losing the second game by only 2 pins.  Lucky for us, the second place team only won 2 points, so we still hold a 10 point lead. I always look forward to bowling; both on Tues. evenings and also on Fri. mornings.  Our Fri. team is in first place. Election night is over, and Jeff was elected Chief of the Woodcliff Lake Fire Department.  His term will start January 1, 2003.  The swearing in will take place at the Firehouse at 1pm that day. Well, the first snowstorm of the season hit yesterday, and winter's not even here yet!  We got about 8 inches of snow.  It sure looks nice, but driving was not fun. Tuesday night at bowling we had to go back a decade and keep score manually.  The computer stopped working at the end of the second game, so they brought us a pencil and scoresheet.  Wow! Our team, Sometimes Sue, had a good night last night.  We won all 3 games, even though we only had mediocre scores.  Luckily for us, the other team had a rough night.  So now we're 14-7 for the season; off to a pretty good start.  Next week Dan will debut subbing for Sue, and Keith will join us since Jeff has a Chief's meeting.

We're back from Wildwood.  We left yesterday morning due to bad weather; why spend the extra day sitting in the room?  So we headed up the Garden State Parkway with every other NJ fireman and their families.  The trip that should have taken 3 hours took 4.  Yuck!

Being the parent of 2 college students isn't easy.  It makes you realize that you're getting older (who, me?).  It also makes you realize that your money is not really yours.  $300 per child for this one semester in book costs.  Actually a bit more than that; Dan needs 2 more books that we can get at Barnes and Noble.  Does it make sense? That's what yesterday was.  The staffing office wouldn't budge, even though the unit was quiet.  So, it goes.  Spent the day with Dan and his friends, Mike and Carlos, at orientation at BCC.  I felt like the mother of triplets; strange.  Just glad I don't have to pay tuition for all of them. It's been awhile; lets see....the Jackals game was lots of fun.  Hamburgers in the parking lot, a bit of beer, then fun in the stadium.  Seats were 3 rows behind the dugout.  It's fun to watch up close.  Had a very busy day at work on Wed; where do all these pregnant women come from?  I guess I shouldn't complain; I have a job, and one that I really do love.

We got Amy off to camp on Sunday; she'll be home Thursday night.  Not too bad saying good-bye this time, I guess because I knew that it was only for 4 days.  I do miss her, though.  It's awfully quiet around here; Dan's the only one left home this week, and he's out more than he's in.  Always out and about with his friends.

We had an uneventful trip home yesterday; left Harrisonburg at 9am and arrived here at 3pm.  We were quite tired from a busy few days, but I really had a good time.  AJ's apartment is nice, although the cleaning company didn't do a very good job between tenants. Well, we are in Harrisonburg, VA at AJ's new apartment.  We've had a busy 24 hours; I'll update at a later time. It's been a long time since my last entry, but it's also been a busy week.  Amy is recovering nicely from the dog bite.  AJ is leaving today for his junior year at James Madison University.
